Psychological portrait

The psychological (visual) portrait is an artistic concept that replaces physical features with psychological and personality traits. These are rendered in a visual-symbolic form, much more complex than that of an ordinary color portrait painted on canvas. The whole process unfolds within a narrative composition that speaks about the way of being and the personality of the portrayed subject, about their biography or spiritual experiences, but in a visual and artistic manner.

The creation process unfolds in several stages:

1. Stage 1: Creating a psychological and emotional connection between the artist and the portrayed person through getting to know them, communication, and human closeness.
2. Stage 2: Observing, sketching, and making a list of the psychological traits noticed over time, which will later become the source of inspiration and conceptual basis of the portrait.
3. Stage 3: The actual creation of the work.

Techniques and methods of creation:

• Manual, with traditional tools such as oil paints, acrylics, pastels, etc.
• Digital, on a graphic tablet. Within this option there are, in turn, two directions:
  • Digital painting version – the work is created entirely in digital format. The difference from classic manual techniques lies in the fact that the tools used are digital, such as the graphic tablet and working software.
  • Photo manipulation version – the work is created through photo manipulation techniques and may have a realistic, hyper-realistic, playful, or surreal appearance, specific to this type of visual expression.

The two digital versions are not rigidly separated; they can merge with one another. In this context, the final composition is essential and must coherently express and define the rules and spirit of this concept.
